Insanity or General Confusion?

There’s a canvas in my studio. Sitting there on the easel in the corner, which means it’s gaining favor. Because it’s been promoted from the stack of other canvases which have been leaning against the wall in the other corner. On the canvas is the rough pencil sketch based on the mad scientist-type doc in the photo above.

It came from, if memory serves, some draft conceptualizing for a children’s book a good ten years ago. That’s how long that sketch has been around. The graduating it to a rough sketch onto canvas is just another step in a very long overdue process. That is, getting the cartoon painted and completed and hung up on some wall, given to some pediatrician (I actually think that’d be a great idea lol) or indicted back to the corner with the others.

Problem is, I can’t decide whether to paint the image as I originally sketched it…because, though it might look cute, it’s definitely out of context. I mean, it makes no real sense, right? Well…it does make sense if you consider the ever-present reality of Insanity And General Confusion that is marriage, kids, and family.

So I thought I’ll either paint just the crazy doc, or just the girl. Like this…

…which I think is sort of fun too. I’d probably lose the thought balloon and the question mark though.

Either way, I’ll keep yall updated on the painting in progress. Heck…maybe I’ll make the finished piece the next Contest Giveway prize! Woohoo!

How ’bout that?
