First Snow
Okay. Mother Nature made good on her warning and woke us up following through, just like a good mom does. She didn’t have to raise her voice, but when She says snow, She means it.
The first of the season.
As snows go, it’s really nothing to get all worked up about. And since I was raised in Michigan, where you barely see the sunlight for about 7 months of the year, Colorado does a stellar work in the Best Of All Seasons department. In fact, the worst of Colorado’s winters are (lets be honest, transplants) a veritable joke compared to what She requires for the rest of the country when it comes to winter’s finest. That is, humidity enough to make 32˚ proof that Hell really did freeze over.
Not so much here. Technically speaking, freezing temperatures in Colorado have to hit the low teens, or lower, for us to notice. And add sunlight to those numbers and you’re donning a jacket or a sweater and calling it good.
I used to have no good thing to say about seeing the end of summer. And even worse things to say about the advent of what’s falling outside my window right now. But, for some reason, I’m good with it this year. And that’s a big deal to me because I think it’s proof that I’m beginning to unclench my fists to Inevitables, and learning to move through What Is.
And, so, learning things.
Things like no matter how beautiful and quiet and gentle this first snow is, the kids who have Late Start and don’t head off to their schools for another two hours, still haven’t learned how to make my coffee, bring it to me in bed, start a fire (as specifics go, let’s be sure and indicate that that means ‘in the actual fireplace’), make their own breakfasts, and pack their own lunches.
Win some, lose some lol.

*head tilt…aww…that’s so cute. Todd is ok with the snow.
Give it til January, then he’ll be posting about going nuts in his office..posting pics of the snow over the windows…kids dressed like Stay Puft Marshmallow people…and the fact that they STILL haven’t learned how to make his coffee.
It’ll happen. You watch.
I’m trying to have a good attitude and you’re not helping lol.
todd……..don’t listen to him!!!!!! he’s a sell-out! he’s all HOA and everything! the weather is astoundingly beautiful! he’s just mad cuz he lives in the hurricane, humidity, and heat state.
Um. Jeff…I don’t mean to get anything started, but Lady B just said you throw like a girl. *justtellingyouwhatIheard*
C’mon, Todd. You’ll see they’ll learn (I hope so.) While this miracle happens (because it is a miracle) you can enjoy the snow…Or just move to hawaii. Whatever suits you.
:) I like your style, Frappé
